In May 2006, the City of Maryville and the City of Alcoa formally agreed to collaborate with Maryville College to construct a new fine and performing arts complex to be located on the Maryville College campus. The complex will consist of two buildings that together house a 1200-seat performance hall, a 250-seat recital hall, a 200-seat flexible theater, three galleries/exhibit spaces, and a grand lobby that can also be used for special events. A feasibility study was completed in 2003, and Maryville College retained Lawler-Wood in 2004 to serve as project manager. Lawler-Wood’s duties included selecting and negotiating the contract for the design team, coordinating programming and conceptual design, developing comprehensive project budgets and schedules, coordinating the development of a governance agreement, consulting with the owner on funding strategies, and coordinating the application for and securing federal funding for the project. The project is currently under construction and is scheduled to be finished in late 2009.
